Description

Ingenio Boca de Nigua are the ruins of an old sugar factory that was built by Spanish settlers in the mid-1600s in San Cristobal for the processing of sugar cane into sugar.

They were declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2005, within the framework of the project "The first colonial sugar mills in America". They are part of the colonial history of the island of Hispaniola.

The Ingenio Boca de Nigua ruins are a historical and cultural place where it is pleasant to walk among nature and ancient buildings. Ideal for taking photos.

The place is not guarded, there is no guard to ensure the safety of visitors.

The ruins are located in the municipality of San Gregorio de Nigua about 6.2 miles south of San Cristobal and about 25 from Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic.
