Alcazar de Colon, lis ocated spanish place in the Colonial Zone of Santo Domingo, was the home of the Columbus family. Today it is one of the most visited museums in Santo Domingo.
The Alcazar de Colon was built between 1510 and 1514 with coral rocks. This palace has hosted the great Spanish conquerors for centuries. Abandoned in the 18th century, it was renovated in 1955 and transformed into a museum dedicated to Viceroy and Admiral Don Diego de Columbus.
The museum presents a rich collection of more than 800 pieces such as furniture, sculptures, tapestries, ceramics and paintings dating from the 13th to the 20th century.
This palace is one of the most visited attractions in Santo Domingo.
To visit the old town and its many museums, it is best to choose a hotel in the Colonial Zone.
