Description
It is the Americans, at the 1965 invasion, who imported this sport into the Dominican Republic. Then in the 70s-80 the Dominicans started to practice surfing and the first national competitions started. It was in the early 1990s, with the creation of the Surf Dominican Federation that surfing was organized and developed.
There is a lot of place to practice surfing and bodyboard, some spots in the Dominican Republic:

The Dominican Surf Federation organizes national events and competitions. The Dominican Surf team regularly participates in international competitions such as the ISA Surf World.
Surf clubs, especially in Cabarete, give surf classes for beginners and insiders. Some offer housing/food/surf packages.
One of the many benefits of surfing in the Dominican Republic is that the water is hot all year round and there are waves all year round, winters on the North side, in summer on the south coast.
