Description
The Santo Cristo de los Milagros Church is located in the small town of Bayaguana about 31 miles from Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic.
Legend has it that an image of Christ carved into wood was found on the beaches of Yaguana in 1606. After this discovery the mother of the girl who found the sculpture who was blind miraculously regained her sight. The sculpture was taken to the Church of Bayaguana.
In 1919 the Santo Cristo de los Milagros Church was declared national heritage by the Office of Cultural Heritage of the Dominican Republic.
A new (larger) sanctuary has been built to house this sculpture of Christ.
