Description
Cayo Levantado is a small paradise island in the bay of Samana, it is sometimes called "Bacardi Island" because in the 1970s this brand shot an advertisement on this small island.
It is the only island in the Dominican Republic on which a hotel has been built, the Bahia Principe Cayo Levantado which is a reasonable size 5-star all-inclusive resort with 268 rooms.
The island is accessible only by boat, one part is public while another is reserved for hotel guests. Spend the day swimming, sunbathing, kayaking, paddleboarding or even snorkeling in the crystal clear waters of Cayo Levantado and then enjoy fresh fish or seafood caught the same day by locals.
This little paradise island is one of the places to see absolutely during a stay in the Samana Peninsula.
Note that there may be restrictions on tours when the large cruise ships dock off the island with their thousands of tourists.
