Description
The Salto de Jimenoa is one of the largest waterfalls in the Dominican Republic. It is located in the city of Jarabacoa, one of the most attractive destinations for ecotourism in the Dominican Republic, it is located a few kilometers from the city of Concepcion de La Vega. The jump consists of a waterfall over 40 meters high that flows between rock formations covered with moss and aquatic vegetation.
The discovery of the waterfall in Jarabacoa
The Jimenoa Jump was discovered at the beginning of the 20th century by the English who participated in the construction of a hydroelectric power station on the Jimenoa River. Of the construction work done in the area, there remain the ruins of a brick chimney that workers built to alleviate the intense cold of this mountainous region of the Dominican Republic, especially in the winter months.
Access to Jimenoa waterfall
To get there you have to follow roads and paths that cross the mountains and plains bordering the river that feeds the waterfalls. Of these, the most impressive and easiest is the Enriquillo Path, an ecological corridor set up two years ago with the goal of serving as a travel route along the banks of the Jimenoa River. To go to the jump, you have to cross the pedestrian suspension bridges, an amazing structure made on the basis of ropes and wooden beams.
Access to the site is controlled, since the area is protected, it is necessary to pay an access fee which is used to carry out cleaning and maintenance of the place.

The waterfall is about ten kilometers from Jarabacoa. A site to visit quite easily accessible. Access which is chargeable is authorized from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
