Description
Cabo Rojo is one of the most beautiful places on the south coast of the Dominican Republic, about twenty kilometers from Pedernales and 75 miles from Barahona. Located near the Bahia de las Aguilas, it is one of the most popular beaches in the province.
Its name derives from the bauxite which is abundant in the surrounding areas, it has remained closed for years.
Access to Cabo Rojo, due to the scarcity of tourist investment in the area and the semi-pristine conditions, it is not as easy to get there as other tourist destinations in the Dominican Republic.
However, these conditions added the attraction of the place, ensure once the beach is reached, a complete immersion in nature. Visits are carried out on a regular basis in the region, but there are also those who choose to approach the region in a particular way.
The crystal clear waters of Cabo Rojo stand out as the best preserved coral reefs in the Caribbean Sea region. From the shore, the beach has an intense turquoise blue. The coasts are favorable areas for the West Indian manatee, a species endemic to the Dominican Republic, and for the laying of carey turtles. Pelicans also abound along its shores in impressive herds.
The inhabited areas is a typical fishing village. Full of quaint wooden houses, it is common to see fishermen doing their work from the shore. It is the perfect place for ecotourism and enjoying nature in its most natural state.
Cabo Rojo is poised to become the new tourist hub of the Dominican Republic with the construction of all-inclusive resorts and a cruise terminal.
