Description
The Hatillo dam in Cotui (province of Sánchez Ramírez) is an important water reserve that supplies water to the whole region and an abundant resource for fishermen who come to fish for carp, tilapia, trout and shrimp.
The dam is 22 km2 and 15 km in its longest part, it is the largest freshwater lake in the Caribbean.
It has become an important tourist attraction of the region with beautiful landscapes, a paradise for nature and ecotourism lovers. It is possible to take boat trips to the Hatillo dam, in particular to visit the Guacara del Lago which is located on an island in the middle of the lake.
On the lake it is possible to bathe there and practice water sports such as fishing, jet skiing, kayaking ... Around and near the lake there are a few restaurants and comedors which offer Dominican dishes and especially fish freshly caught in the lake.

The dam is 5 miles from Cotui, 71.4 from Santo Domingo (the capital of the Dominican Republic) and 67 from Santiago de los Caballeros.
