The beaches of the province of Azua
The province of Pedernales has one of the most beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic at Bahia de las Aguilas (the bay of the eagles).
The province of Pedernales is located in the extreme southwest of the country, along the Caribbean Sea with more than 100 kilometers of coast which are mainly located in the Jaragua National Park which occupies a large part of the province.
It is a province which lives mainly on agriculture (bananas, coffee) and fishing (fish, lobster, queen conch ...).
Tourism is very little developed due to its distance from major tourist centers, Santo Domingo is over 300 kilometers, Punta Cana Cap Cana and Puerto Plata are about 500 kilometers. This makes it impossible for foreign tourists to visit this province for a day who are in all-inclusive resorts.
However, local tourism and some "adventurers" come to visit Pedernales, the famous Bahia Las Aguilas, the Oviedo lagoon and other tourist and ecotourism attractions.
The province of Pedernales has some pretty beaches:
- Playa El Can.
- Playa Mongo.
- Piticabo accessible only by sea.
- Playa Blanca (Trudille) accessible on foot or by sea.
- Bahia de las Aguilas (one of the most beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic).
- Cabo Rojo.
- Playa Pedernales.
