San Rafael Beach - Barahona - Dominican Republic
Playa San Rafael is a small and pretty beach nestled between the Caribbean Sea and the mountains.
A treasure from the Pearl of the South
San Rafael beach is located in the extreme southwest of the Dominican Republic, between La Ciénaga and Paraiso, about thirty kilometers south of Barahona.
It is a white and gray pebble beach, it is at the mouth of the small San Rafael river. The river (Balneario Villa Miriam) offers large pools and waterfalls for swimming, which flow into the Caribbean Sea.
Along the beach and the river there are small restaurants that offer typical Dominican dishes and very good fish that are caught by the inhabitants of the region.
Playa San Rafael is a small and quiet beach, away from the main tourist centers of the Dominican Republic, but very crowded on weekends, holidays and school vacations.
At certain times of the year, San Rafael beach offers good conditions for surfing with beautiful rollers.
