Description
This museum was the former home of Juan Ponce de Leon, a Spanish conquistador who lived in this fortress house in the 1510s before leaving for Puerto Rico.
It is a cubic house, built in stone with very thick walls and small windows in the middle of a nice park. Inside the museum there are some period furniture and objects such as a bed, a table, chairs, religious items, agricultural tools ...
The Juan Ponce de Leon museum is located at the entrance to the small town of San Rafael de Yuma (province of La Altagracia) between Bayahibe and Higuey, in the east of the Dominican Republic.
It is on the way to Boca de Yuma, a small typical village by the sea.
