Description
Monte Cristi National Park stretches from the Haitian border to Punta Rucia, in the northwest of the Dominican Republic, it is made up of lagoons, mangroves, beaches and a limestone plateau.
It is a protected area of more than 500 km2, the region is dry and arid with many species of plants, trees and a wide variety of small animals, reptiles (iguanas), birds (frigates, herons, egrets)... Most of the park is flat with the exception of a limestone plateau (El Morro) which rises to about 242 meters and offers an extraordinary view of the park and the sea.
Monte Cristi National Park has several lagoons as well as a large mangrove swamp with mancenilliers. The Cayo Siete Hermanos islets are part of the park. The mangroves can be visited by boat.
This corner of the Dominican Republic is still preserved from mass tourism because of its distance from the major tourist centers of the country such as Punta Cana Cap Cana which is more than 460 kilometers away and Santo Domingo is 280. Only Puerto Plata is not too much. far (150 km).

The park is located about fifteen minutes from the town of San Fernando de Monte Cristi, in the northwest of the Dominican Republic.
