Bonao - Dominican Republic

Bonao is a city located in center of Dominican Republic, in Monseñor Nouel Province, at the north of Santo Domingo. The name of the city dates back to the Indians. Bonao was the chief who ruled this part of the island of Hispaniola with the arrival of the Spaniards.
The city is surrounded by mountains easily accessible and has lush vegetation and different balnearios. Bonao and its region has many ecotourism attractions with rivers, mountains, valleys, fabulous scenery, this is one of the most attractive region of the Dominican Republic for mountain tourism and ecotourism.

The economy relies mainly on local businesses, small agricultural production and the production of nickel mining. Agricultural production is composed of 80% of rice and the rest is divided between the cocoa and coffee.
Bonao was important in the early years of Spanish colonization, it is in the city that Francisco Roldan fled with 70 rebels in what was the first revolution of the social demands of the New World.

A celebration that annually conducts many people in Bonao is the Carnival, where hundreds of people dress in different costumes and organize a parade through downtown.
One of the most attractive places is the Place of Culture, with a modern museum with decorations by artists Dominicans.

Despite good potential for mountain tourism, Bonao has few hotels.
