Monte Plata
is located in the southeastern region of the Dominican Republic,
53 kms
(32 milles) from Santo Domingo.
Monte Plata is one of the areas of the country with the greatest
potential for further tourism development or naturalistic, because
of its greenery and many natural resources. Among them, the largest
is the National Park Los Haitises with an extraordinary natural
beauty with many species of flora and fauna endemic to the Dominican
Republic and the Caribbean.
Another attraction of the city is the festivities in honor of local
saints throughout the province.
Economy depends mainly on agriculture and livestock, field crops
of cocoa, sugar cane and coffee.
Currently, Monte Plata experiencing the emergence
of a great interest for tourist attractions it
holds and for the development of ecotourism in
the region.
