Padre Las Casas - Dominican Republic
Padre Las Casas
is located in the southwestern region of the Dominican
Republic, in the province of Azua,
in a valley of the Cordillera Central.
It was originally founded as the Valle de las Aguas in 1776 because
the village is surrounded by rivers Las Cuevas and the Yaque del
Sur.
The Padre Las Casas economy depends largely on agriculture, particularly
crops of coffee, beans and rice. In addition, it has untapped mineral
deposits.
Despite its impressive natural conditions, Padre Las Casas
has yet to develop tourism. The city serves as a road to Pico Duarte
and its territory are caves decorated with engravings left the Tainos,
who were residents of the region in pre-Columbian times. It also
has beautiful lakes and the Salto de Majaguita.
