San Jose de Ocoa - Dominican Republic

San Jose de Ocoa is a city of the Dominican Republic in the foothills of the Cordillera Central, in the south of the country. It was established in 2000 as an ecological province. The relief of the city is mainly mountainous with steep slopes, mainly in northern and heights of up to 2,000 meters above sea level. The vegetation of the province of San José de Ocoa is abundant and rich.

Temperatures are moderate and stable, but varies with height, registering the lowest temperatures in the higher areas of the province.
Rivers Ocoa and Nizao, born into the upper part of the province, through the province from north to south.
Agriculture is the main activity, with a production of coffee, potatoes, beans, carrots, cabbage, peanuts, avocado, among others. Production of tropical fruits is also important.

San José de Ocoa and the region has a great potential for ecotourism and mountain tourism in Dominican Republic, yet the infrastructure to receive tourists are low, even if companies offer hiking, horses and mountain biking.
