Jarabacoa - Dominican Republic
Jarabacoa
is a town in the Dominican Republic, located in
the heart of the Central Cordilera, 500 meters above sea level,
at a distance of 2 ½ hours from Santo
Domingo. This region has an impressive nature. River Yaque del
Norte through the city and has three majestic waterfalls: Jimenoa
I, Jimenoa II and Salto Baiguate, besides being in the neighborhood
of Pico Duarte (the higher of the Caribbean).
Jarabacoa has a tropical rainy climate, with an
average annual temperature of 22 °C with little variation, and
heavy rain throughout the year.
The city's economy depends mainly on agriculture. The territories
of the region are high and varied production. There are plantations
of strawberries sold in the country and are also exported and vegetable
production for local consumption and for export.
Tourism is the line most promising development in Jarabacoa. The
city is ideally positioned to develop mountain tourism and ecotourism.
The main activities that can be performed: rafting, tubing, canyoning, cascading,
mountain biking, quad biking, horse riding, hiking and more.
The region is also an important route for mountaineering in the
Caribbean, the way to Pico Duarte, the highest peak in the Caribbean
with 3.175 meters above sea level
In addition, southwest of the town, is the Ebano Verde Scientific
Reserve, a cloud forest with high biodiversity, endemism and an
ecotourism program.
Jarabacoa is the ecological capital of the Dominican

Parapente

Jimenoa waterfall
The best known and most spectacular jump in the region. About twenty minutes from the city, there are two successive waterfalls, one 40 meters high and the other 60. At the foot of each of the waterfalls there is a natural pool.
It is a protected area, the entrance is RD $ 50.
Salto Baiguate
Impressive waterfall 25 meters high. Many locals come to enjoy the cool waters. It is one of the main tourist attractions in Jarabacoa.
Excursions at Pico Duarte
The culmination of the Caribbean at 3087 meters for nature lovers. The excursion takes place over several days and must be accompanied by a guide. It is not high mountain but you still need a good physical condition because it is not a walk either.
Ebano Verde Scientific Reserve

Aguas Blanca Waterfall Constanza
One of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Dominican Republic. It is one of the highest waterfalls in the Caribbean at 83 meters high. It is located at 1682 meters of altitude in the Juan Bautista Pérez Rancier Park.
