The Descubierta is about 149 miles (240 kms) from Santo Domingo passing by Bani, Azua, Vicente Noble, Neiba. There is another road coming from the south, from Barahona via Duverge and Jimani.

It is a small agricultural town where tourism is non-existent, yet there is a potential for ecological tourism with Lake Enriquillo but the remoteness with the major tourist centers and the lack of structure make the tourism is essentially internal.
