Consuelo is a small town located 10 minutes north of San Pedro de Macoris, the provincial capital. It is a small agricultural town, tourism is almost non-existent.

The geographical location of San Pedro de Macoris is practically flat, consisting of large savannas.
Currently, it has a very diversified economy. The most important points are agriculture, livestock and production of sugarcane, San Pedro de Macoris has a lot of sugar factory .

Tourism activity is also important and is developing especially in the western part of the province, to Guayacanes and Juan Dolio. There are a few hotels in San Pedro de Macoris but the most important offering consists of the hotels and all-inclusive in Juan Dolio.
