Constanza is the highest city at altitude of the Dominican Republic, it is more than 1,200 meters above sea level, in the central cordillera. It is known as the Switzerland of the Caribbean.
It is the most "cold" city of the Dominican Republic with an average temperature of 18.4 °C with sometimes night temperatures close to 0 °C.
The economy is mainly based on the production of vegetables, flowers, garlic, potatoes, strawberries...
Ecotourism and mountain tourism are well developed with numerous waterfalls, rivers, national parks... Like the Salto de Aguas Blanca, the Valle Nuevo National Park, José del Carmen Ramírez National Park. Adventure tourism with mountain bike, four wheel, paragliding, enduro, mountaineering, hiking and equestrian is booming.
Many wealthy Dominicans have a second home in the vicinity of Constanza.
